Program Philosophy

HireLAX was created to address the lack of local hiring in the massive construction expansion underway at Los Angeles International Airport. LAWA recognized that billions in public infrastructure investment should benefit the surrounding community. The program prepares LA residents — especially those without prior trade experience — to enter union construction apprenticeships and secure work with LAX contractors. It removes barriers by making training free and providing industry-recognized certifications, direct employer connections, and one-on-one support.
