✦ For altAid Funders

Invest in Learners Through altAid

By funding altAid grants, you’ll help learners start and finish their programs. altAid covers the everyday costs that derail training like food, transportation, tools, and materials.

A $400 laptop repair stood between her and a degree

Months from finishing her program, one learner's laptop died right before finals. There was no room in the budget to fix it, and no laptop meant no final project, no last semester, no transfer. A small altAid grant covered the repair. She finished. That is the gap altAid closes: not tuition, but the everyday emergencies that quietly end otherwise-successful training. Your funding is what's waiting at that moment.

What altAid Is

Small grants, finished programs

For many learners the obstacle is not tuition. It is a broken laptop, a bus pass, childcare, or a month of rent. altAid steps in so a short-term hardship does not end a long-term opportunity.

Branisha, altAid Recipient

Chime Scholars Foundation

"The grant has made a huge difference in my education by allowing me to focus more on my coursework and long-term goals instead of constantly worrying about finances. As a student balancing school, work, and family responsibilities, the extra support helped ease the burden of everyday expenses and gave me the ability to stay on track academically. It has motivated me to continue pursuing my education and reminded me that there are people and organizations that truly believe in students like me and want to see us succeed."

Kyeesha, altAid Recipient

Chime Scholars Foundation

"I used the money to buy groceries for myself and my 2 children. It was a huge stress reliever and I was able to focus more on my schoolwork. Worrying about my financial situation was putting a strain on education. I could not focus and was getting behind. The grant was very helpful. I was able to stop stressing and put the focus back on my education."

Frequently asked questions

Any altPath user who finds and enrolls in a non-bachelor degree program is eligible to apply. First they must submit confirmation that they have enrolled in a program and we must confirm the program is eligible.

Most programs featured on altPath are eligible for altAid, as long as they are not a bachelor degree program. Here are some additional requirements:

  • Programs must be based in the U.S. and lead to a credential recognized by an accreditation organization or industry group.
  • Applicants must not have received an altAid grant within the past 12 months.

altAid grants are intended to remove financial hardship that impacts enrollment or continuation in a training program. As such, the application review process weighs the impact of the stated financial need on continued enrollment.
